The Dell’Arte Summer Academy offers a unique summer experience for youth, as they work and play in classes in the
Dell 'Arte tradition, clowning, mask acting, physical comedy, play writing and improvisation. The Summer Academy takes place at Arcata Elementary School.
The Summer Academy is designed to run as either an all day program or a half day program, depending on the needs of the family, and offers kids a unique creative experience. We provide workshop style
classes for children who really enjoy theatre, and want to explore their skills, with qualified, working professionals.
Instructors include well know local teachers, and top guest teachers from outside the area. But the Summer Academy is more than just the classes. We gather as a group every morning and afternoon to offer news and philosophy of the day, and play theatre games. There are long recess periods so students can enjoy an outdoor free play time, and interact with kids outside their classes.
There is a performance at the end of the Summer Academy, where all participate. The show is an exciting blend of ages and physical theatre styles, as all the classes perform pieces developed by the students themselves, with guidance from their Dell’Arte Instructors.
Parents get to see into the minds and hearts of their children in new ways, as they watch the products of their fertile and fresh imaginations. The Dell’Arte Summer Academy is a special experience, where we teach not only theatre, but how to perform creatively in life.
Morning classes begin at 9 a.m. and run until noon, with a half hour recess break. Afternoon classes run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The cost for a full day includes a supervised lunch, and daycare from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
There are partial scholarships available for low and middle-income families.
Classes are geared toward age groups 7 through 9, and 10 through 12, and 13-18. |
