Tomorrow’s theatremakers follow their inspiration…
The culminating work of the MFA program—3 original works devised and performed by graduating MFA class. Working as small ensembles, the students explore their images of the theatre, taking on the roles of actors, directors, playwrights, and theatremakers.
The Thesis Festival includes:
Night Mother: A Comedy by and with Lucy Shelby and Ariel Lauryn
Two women, practically sisters, opposite in nature and stubborn in identity, parted ways because their very relationship always resulted in disaster. Newly reunited after 10 years apart, they have decided to put on a play, but like gasoline trying to dowse fire, the very room explodes and the women are forced to change. The audacity of laughter in the face of death bursts forth into comedy.
That Sinking Sensation: A Tragicomedy by and with Andrew Eldredge, Allie Menzimer, and Emily Newton
On a routine trip to deliver a boat, everything goes wrong. Four long days adrift in the open ocean beset by flesh wounds, starvation and insanity. Two people die. One person lives. A comedy.
A Hole in the Attic by Jerome Yorke, Darci Fulcher, and Billy Higgins
A Hole in the Attic is an exploration of what it is to live with free will. In an attic with moonbeams and moths, five characters play out their cycles of penance. Interruptions in their course bring to them a delight in acceptance. The five-person cast includes Dell’Arte alumni Grace Booth and Ruxandra Cantir.
