Los Payasos Mendigos (the beggar clowns) ran riot over much of the West Coast, Canada, Europe and the UK for nearly 10 years. Performing in 12 different countries to tens of thousands of people in three different languages, this dynamic comic foursome is reuniting and coming home to Humboldt County for five performances at Dell’Arte’s Mad River Festival July 15-18. They will be hitting the Rooney amphitheater stage in Blue Lake with a live band, special guests and their trademark comic mayhem.

They have been described as, “The Mexican circus meets the Three Stooges”. Dressed in spandex rumored to be left over from a Madonna tour, they have entertained thousands with their irreverent style, slapstick comedy and colorful characters. essed in spandex rumoured to be leftovers from a Madonna tour, they entertained thousands with their irreverent style, slapstick comedy and colorful characters They will be bringing a mix of their best loved bits with plenty of new craziness for a show they are calling Los Payasos Mendigos Rise Again. The show will feature flying fruits and vegetables, a chorizo dance, Mexican wrestlers, a live band, and of course, men in spandex. This promises to be a rare and hilarious treat for the whole family.

Now living and working in Europe and the U.K. two of the members of Los Payaso will return to Humboldt County for this special show from abroad. Joe Dieffenbacher aka Yahoo, the flame retardant one is now based in Oxford, England and performing across Europe and the U.K. with his company Nakupelle. Also now based overseas is the once long time local performer Rudi Galindo aka Lupita, la feminita. Living in Brussels, Belgium, Galindo and his company Teatro Pachuco is having wide success at festivals and venues in Europe with his solo work and ensemble creations. Still in California and working in the film industry in Los Angeles, Cosmo Kuzmick aka Excremente, the sensitive one is looking forward to breaking out his spandex and hitting the Dell’Arte stage for the Payasos’ fans. Finally, local actor and director of the Arcata Playhouse, David Ferney aka Guapo, the handsome one is laying all of the ground work to welcome his Payaso partners back home. “I’m very excited to be bringing us all back together for these special performances. We have been working on it for a year now and finally the stars have aligned for a Payaso reunion and it will be a great one.” said Ferney.

Joining the show as the band will be local musicians Tim Gray, Marla Joy and Tim Randles. There will also be some special guests adding to the festivities; among them are local actress and singer Jacqueline Dandeneau. Dell’Arte has teamed up with Playhouse Arts and business sponsor Los Bagels to give Humboldt County residents what they have been asking for years, Los Payasos Mendigos Rise Again! All performances are at the Mad River Festival outdoors on the Rooney Amphitheater stage in Blue Lake. Running Thursday through Sunday, July 15-18 at 8 PM, with a special matinee short show on Sunday, July 18 at 4 PM (only $10) for Annie & Mary Day.
